Most Frequently Asked Tail-Mate© Questions

Q1: What does the Tail-Mate© do?
A: It lifts the tail wheel to 40 inches. Saves your back while lifting that heavy tail section and trying to balance it on milk crates or stools. Owners of 540 engines with forward oil sumps experience easier oil changes by lifting the tail wheel to 40 inches. In most cases, you no longer need a ladder to work on your engine. Routine maintenance and annual inspections are a breeze. Makes belly cleaning easier.

Q2: What types of aircraft will the Tail-Mate© accommodate?
A: Generally, any light aircraft with a tail wheel set at the aft end of the tail feathers where the elevator is cut inboard to account for rudder travel. A partial list includes:

Q3: What size wheel will work with the Tail-Mate©
A: The foot of the Tail-Mate© is adjustable to accommodate a 4”, 6” or 8” wheel.

Q4: Will the Tail-Mate© work with a full-swivel tail wheel?
A: Yes, simply maneuver the tower in-between the rudder and the elevator making sure the rudder is not touching the tower and crank her up.

Q5: Can I use the Tail-Mate© to pull or push my aircraft?
A: No. The Tail-Mate© is not designed to move aircraft - only lift it.

(Check out Skyline Aviation, makers of the Tail-Dragger Dragger™ www.dragger.com)

Q6: Does the aircraft move while the Tail-Mate© lifts?
A: The aircraft doesn’t move; however, the Tail-Mate© will move forward as it lifts because the tower is angled back. The main gear of the aircraft should be chocked. If wings are tied down, they must be untied before lifting.

Q7: Does the Tail-Mate© require a level, smooth surface?
A: Yes. However, if you have unleveled ground or gravel, simply place a piece of plywood down and level as best you can. The main gear wheels on the aircraft must be chocked.

Q8: How long after I order will I receive my Tail-Mate©?
A: Your Tail-Mate© will be shipped in approximately 4-5 days.
